Entrusting someone to care for your kids can be challenging

Looking for a Babysitter
Quite often there will appear situations when you will need someone’s help to look after your dear child. Surely, it is a real challenge to entrust somebody your kid’s life, for that reason you will try to find a qualified nanny. However, how can you be sure everything will be alright?
Here we are going to present some general information aimed to answer the fore-mentioned question.
The best way out of the situation is to find someone who you know perfectly and who you can trust. If there is no one who has time to look after your baby, try to find a nanny through asking your friends or colleagues for recommendations. In case your child already stays at after-school club, inquire if one of the child-minders is willing to stay with your kid. At least you may ask the child-minder about good recommendations.
If you have several candidates, but still cannot make a choice, set up an interview. In such a case you will need questions regarding the issues you are interested in. Do not forget to ask about babysitters’ experience of taking care of kids, then make certain of the special courses a supposed nanny has taken, whether she is aware hoe to render first aid, etc.
So, let’s suppose you have made your choice finally. Now you must be ready to provide your babysitter with all important information about:
- Your child’s timetable: when he/she eats, does homework and goes to bed.
- Rules which touch on the question of limits on walking outside, watching TV, playing computer games, etc.
- The place where you are going to be, your telephone number, and time when you are going to come back home in case 911 operator demands all needed data.
- All emergency numbers, including not only 911, but also your friends’, neighbors’, and doctor’s ones left to the fore.
- Emplacement of emergency exits, fire and smoke detectors including information about the way they work.
- Place where the babysitter can find extra keys, if your child locked himself/herself somewhere in the house.
- Place where the sitter can find a first-aid kit.
- Special problems your kid may have, including health problems (especially allergy and asthma), the medications needed, and particularities of his/her behavior. It will be much better if your write down and explain all the directions before leaving).
Moreover, if your kid is old enough, it is important for him/her to be aware of how to call 911 in case something happens with the nanny.
Make sure the following safety rules are well-known to your babysitter:
- Do not give a kid any medications if they were not listed in your instructions.
- Do not leave him/her alone on outdoor spaces. Keep attention if you are walking near water: small kids can drown no matter how deep is the water surface!
- Do not give a child under 4 years old tough foods like raw carrots, or candies, and small products like popcorn or nuts to avoid the risk of choking. For the same reason, do not let the kid play with small objects (be it toys or anything else) and plastic bags.
- Do not let a child play by the window, stairs, and household devices.
When you come back, do not forget to ask your child if everything was alright and if he/she liked the sitter.
After the nanny you can rely on is found, there remains more time to enjoy your life and not to get nervous.
Good Luck!
