If you bottle feed your baby

Some moms may have problems with breastfeeding that’s why bottle feeding comes to help them.
So, if your baby is bottle fed the first advice is to consult your doctor about the most appropriate type of formula for him/her.
There exist 3 types of formula which you can find in stores:
- Powdered formula. To get it prepared, all you need is to add particular amount of sterilized water (the proportions are usually indicated on the wrapping). This variant is the cheapest.
- Concentrated formula. Though this type represents a liquid, it must also be watered.
- Ready-made formula. No water is needed. The price of this formula is higher than of the other two types.
Make sure the formula you have chosen is not out of the expiration date indicated on the wrapping. If the date have already passed, do not feed your baby with this formula – it can be dangerous for his/her health.
Preparation of formula involves boiling water for about 5 minutes and cooling it before adding to the formula of the first two enumerated types. The last trend – bottles with a liner which can be disposed – may help you to save time, but keep in mind changing liners after every feeding. Keep prepared liquid in the fridge. Remember that it can be used only within 2 days.
Take note of the fact that a bottle of formula should be heat before feeding a baby. For that purpose, turn on hot tap and place the bottle under running water. Do not hurry to feed your kid with it, first the temperature should be checked. So drip a few drops of formula on your wrist: if it is warm, it is perfect for your baby. Do not use microwave oven for heating bottles as it may get too hot; besides, it can be dangerous in case the bottle is made of plastic.
During bottle feeding, hold your baby’s head (it should be a bit higher than her tummy). A nipple must be full of formula; otherwise your baby will swallow air and split up. That means you must hold the bottle in a proper way – bottom up. Do not leave the bottle with props or else your child can choke! After feeding throw away leftover formula.
After using bottles and other special items for bottle feeding, do not forget to wash them carefully with soap and hot water; then these objects must be rinsed in clean water and boiled in a covered pot as they must be sterilized well.
Beside all this information, think of the fact that any member of your family can try feeding your dear one. You should know that feeding time is not only a systematic process, it is also a time during which you bond with your kid.
